Note that the deadline to apply to be on the Junior Board is Wednesday, October 2, 2024.

What is the purpose of the Junior Board?

The Junior Board is an opportunity for high school-age skaters to contribute to the AAFSC while gaining critical leadership and organizational skills. The Junior Board’s mission will focus on four core areas: Building Community, Supporting the AAFSC, Mentoring and Encouraging Skaters, and Developing Leadership Skills.

What kinds of activities will the Junior Board Committee do?

Potential activities supporting the Board’s mission include:

  • Building Community: Planning social events and celebrations to bring together skaters at different levels and in different disciplines (e.g., freestyle, ice dance, synchro).
  • Supporting the AAFSC: Recruit youth volunteers for AAFSC needs, organize staff and coach appreciation activities, and develop a positive social media presence.
  • Mentoring and Encouraging Skaters: Help younger/newer skaters prepare for competitions, serve as ambassadors at Learn to Skate or Public Skate events.
  • Developing Leadership Skills: Plan and run meetings, make group decisions, keep a budget, and form subcommittees to plan and implement activities.

Who is eligible and how do I apply?

Youth skaters are eligible who are AAFSC first club members in good standing, currently in grades 9-12, and are motivated to give back to the Club and support their fellow youth skaters! Application forms will be available at the information table. Please help spread the word about this opportunity for youth skaters to have a positive impact on their skating community!
