D’Yon Padgett

Background:

My name is D’Yon Padgett, I began my figure skating career in 2005 at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube. I have 18 years of ice skating experience, and 4 years of coaching “Learn to Skate USA.” I have competitively competed in Singles, Synchronized Skating, and Exhibitions. Figure Skating has always been a safe place for me ever since I can remember. One of the reasons I started ice skating was to have fun while having the opportunity to express myself artistically.

I am an entrepreneur. I am the Founder/CEO of Jay’s Champs, LLC Athletic Clothing Brand founded in 2019 during my sophomore year of college.

Experience:

I began Ice Skating at 5 years old, since then I have competed in freestyle competitions, U.S. Synchronized Skating Championships, Exhibitions. Showcases, theater-on-ice workshops, and in 2018, I skated in Stars on Ice Performance in Detroit, Michigan. During my high school career at Skyline High School, I helped to Co-found Skyline Coed Varsity Figure Skating Team in 2016. As a team we won three years in a row at figure skating competitions and states. I graduated from Skyline High School in 2018 and after high school I was accepted into Central Michigan University in the Fall of 2018. I majored in Entrepreneurship with a minor in Communication, and I graduated from Central Michigan University in May 2022, with a Bachelor of Applied Arts. I also attained my Master’s Degree in the area of Entrepreneurial Ventures

Passion and Values:

I develop lesson plans for my skaters to make the process fun and easier to learn at their own pace. The lessons are designed to build basic skills for beginners and challenge my advanced skaters. My goal is to provide a safe and caring environment for my skaters as well as myself. During my college career at Central Michigan University, I started a university figure skating club in 2019. The club consisted of fellow schoolmates and fellow ice skating coaches. We remained active until the pandemic of 2020.
