Background:
Dean Copely grew up skating in Newark, Delaware competing dance, pairs, and freestyle. In 2008, he moved to Canton, Michigan to take from Marina Zoueva and Igor Shpilband. He competed on the Junior and Senior Grand Prix circuit on Team USA and is the 2011 National Junior Dance Champion and 2011 Junior World bronze medalist.
Experience:
Dean coached full time at the Greater Kalamazoo Skating Association from 2013-2023. He graduated from WMU with a Bachelors in Biomedical Sciences while living and coaching in Kalamazoo. Dean has partnered students from the beginning pattern dances through the international level. His focus is the National Solo Dance Series and in 2024, he founded The Solo Dance Advantage competition team. TSDA is one of the biggest solo dance competition teams in the country and produced 9 medals at the 2024 National Solo Dance Final. Dean and TSDA have produced National Solo Dance Final champions in Shadow, Pattern, and Combined events.
