Claire Mifsud

Background:

Claire began competing at the age of 8. Throughout her 12-year career, she took part in many different disciplines of skating including Singles, Ice Dance, Synchro, and Theater on Ice. She has over 8 years competing at her regions’ Regional and Sectional competitions and represented Texas at the State Games of America. Claire is a Gold Medalist in Move in the Fields and a Pre-Gold Medalist in Ice Dance. She was a 2-time gold medalist with HITS competing at the Annual International Theater on Ice competition. Participating as both a skater and coach, she was an active member of her annual holiday show for over 10 years. In 2016, she graduated from Texas State University with her Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training and has been licensed and practicing for over 8 years.

Experience:

Claire first began coaching as an assistant coach with her Learn to Skate program in Sugar Land, Texas, where she continued to coach for the next 6 years, before moving up to Michigan. After arriving to Michigan, she started working with UM Dearborn’s Men’s Hockey program, both on ice and off the ice with strength, conditioning, and rehabilitation.
Currently she serves as the Learn to Skate Director, as well as a Professional coach through AAFSC. She is the head coach for the Ann Arbor

United High school Figure Skating Team. She has coached numerous students, ranging in age and level, from basic skills to high USFSA levels. She is well versed in both USFSA Freestyle and Skating Skill test, as well as creating competition programs.
Her overall objective when coaching is to instill confidence in each skater, while helping them set and work towards their personalized goals. She uses an array of teaching styles to find the one that works best for each individual skater. She is an active listener and works to pair that with positive reinforcement to help overcome barriers that a skater might face on the ice.
