Held annually in the spring!
As the skating season comes to an end, we hold a separate event for the AAFSC Awards Ceremony. These awards include: Gordon C. Brown "Outstanding Leadership & Volunteer of the Year" Award, Julia Segall-Derfler "Sportsmanship" Award, Melanie Faulkner-Bolhuis "Apprentice of the Year" Award, Adult Achievement Award, Bobbie R. Stoermer "Most Tests Passed" Award, and Competitor of the Year.

The Gordon C. Brown Award is named in recognition of the 3-time Club President of AAFSC. He was a national and international judge, national dance referee, and served as the Vice President of US Figure Skating in the 1960s. He is remembered for his devotion to figure skating and in his memory, the award was established to recognize members who have demonstrated outstanding leadership, dedication, and volunteer services to the club. The AAFSC Board of Directors chooses the recipient.

Julia Segall-Derfler was a vibrant young women who earned one of the very first Ann Arbor FSC Sportsmanship Awards. Tragically, at the age of 24, she died of a sudden illness. She was a tenacious, eager freestyle competitor who inspired the hearts of many as she embraced people as they were and celebrated their differences. Julia truly knew the meaning of sportsmanship, but more importantly she lived it every day and we are thrilled to keep her memory alive with this award.

This award is presented to an AAFSC Learn to Skate Apprentice Volunteer who has shown enthusiasm for working with young skaters in our Basic Skills Program and learning how to teach. The recipient is chosen by the Learn to Skate Director and Assistant Director based on written evaluations.

Every year the Ann Arbor Figure Skating Club awards special recognition to an adult member who is an active skater who represents the club in competitions, and is a full participant in the adult skating community. This award is selected by the AAFSC Board of Directors.

Long time AAFSC member, Bobbie Stoermer, has served the club as President, MOI Producer, and costume maker for Melody on Ice and the Hockettes teams. She is a locally renowned US Figure Skating judge and is the current AAFSC Test Chair. In 2004, the club established this trophy in her name to honor the AAFSC skater with the highest number of tests passed each season.

The Competitor of the Year Award is presented annually to the AAFSC skater or skaters that have represented the club in competitions during the past season. The winner of the award is calculated on a point system that assigns points for each competition, event entered, level, placement, and competition ranking in a skating discipline. For example, higher level and National events are awarded more points than local competitions.
