Competition Guest Policy
There are no limits to the number of guests that you bring to our competition! However, U.S. Figure Skating requires that all sanctioned events must follow the same COVID restrictions. As a result, all competition guests must properly wear a face mask while in the building.

Please note that we will not be requiring vaccination or testing results. However, if you are not feeling well, we ask that you please stay home.
Tossies
Adult competitions are known for their "tossies"- little gifts thrown onto the ice following a competitor's performance. Your participation is entirely optional! However, if you are interested in participating, we ask that items be well sealed and non-fragile. Examples- tissues, candy, snacks, notes of encouragement, stuffed animals, etc. We will have "sweepers", youth skaters, available to assist competitors in collecting items off the ice.

Tossies CAN be thrown onto the ice at our event this year!
COVID Policies
At this time, U.S. Figure Skating requires that all sanctioned events must follow the same COVID restrictions. As a result, all competition guests including skaters, coaches, and spectators must properly wear a face mask while in the building. The only exception to this rule is for skaters while they are on the ice. Skaters are not required to wear a face mask while on the ice for practice ice, warm-up, or their performance.

Please note that we will not be requiring vaccination or testing results. However, if you are not feeling well, we ask that you please stay home.
Competitor's Party
Unfortunately (and fortunately), we had to cancel the Adult Social Ice Session because the competition events were just too long to have any extra time remaining at the end. However, we'd love to get our adult skaters together for a Competitor's Party at **Outback Steakhouse** following the competition!

If you're interested, please respond to this email by 3:00 pm on Thursday, September 30th letting me know if you and your coach would like to attend.

Practice Ice
Be prepared for the day's events! Sign-up for Practice Ice is taking place now. We strongly encourage that you register ahead of time for Practice Ice as all sessions are on a first-come, first-served basis. Please note that it will only display the practice ice sessions that you are eligible to register for based on your competition event(s).

To purchase Practice Ice, please use the "Practice Ice" Menu drop down to select "Purchase from Schedule".

UPDATED Judges Location
If you're like me, you like to know ahead of time where the judges will be located. For ALL events, the judges will be seated in the top center of the bleachers in a designated Judges' Box. This UPDATED decision was made based on the "half-ice" program style of the compulsory events compared to the elements style typically seen in a youth skating event.

Didn't get a chance to prepare tossies? Don't worry! Carol's Fabric Shop will be joining us for the day with the best gifts for your favorite skater!

Planned Program Content
To better assist our official's in the Judge's Critique forms, we are asking that all Freestyle, Jumps, Spins, etc. events that would normally be scored IJS, submit a PPC emailed to kim.figureskating@gmail.com by Friday, October 1st. 

Please include the order and description of the elements in your program, including all anticipated jumps, spins, footwork, etc. Similarly, if you are attempting to achieve a level on a particular spin/element, please list your planned features. This might aid our official in identifying these/noting any areas that would need more revs, twist, etc.

Judges Location
If you're like me, you like to know ahead of time where the judges will be located! For Compulsory Events, judges will be located across from the audience stands, near the rink surface. For all other events, the judges will be located in the top center of the audience stands.


Our competition events will take place on an Olympic Ice Surface- measuring 200 feet x 100 feet, compared to an average NHL sized rink of only 200 feet x 85 feet.

Road Closure near the Hotel
There is currently a road closure at the hotel's freeway exit. If the closure remains next weekend for the event, please plan to take Exit #175 for Ann Arbor-Saline Rd. Although I'm sure many of you use GPS, I recommend this route because it will take you by the rink on your way to the hotel. I will send an updated email if the exit opens back up before the event!

WE'LL NEED ALL THE HELP YOU CAN GIVE US!
Runners
Take results from judges to AAFSC office for copies, awards stand, and post along hallway wall.Perfect for kids/teens!
Sweepers
Adult competitions are known for their "tossies"- little gifts thrown on the ice following each competitor's performance. We're asking our youth skaters to volunteer their time, collecting these items as they're thrown onto the ice and then pass them off to the adult skaters.
Set up & Take down
Set up- Hang starting orders, locker room signs, and general set-up for the competition events.

Take down- Remove signs and put away items as directed.
Announcer
Announce events and competitors' names as they take the ice
Food Donations
Provide food for our volunteers and coaches. Examples- bagels, cream cheese, mac n cheese, crockpot meals, soups, fruit, veggies, sandwiches, water, juices, granola bars, etc.
Awards
Present medals to skaters 1st - 4th place, assist them as needed on the podium and take photos with AAFSC provided camera.
Hospitality Room
Ensure food and plating items are neatly arranged throughout competition. Restock as needed with provided items.
Practice Ice Monitors
Check skaters in for their practice ice sessions. Collect money and give change to skaters who did not pre-register.
Register to Volunteer
Registration Table
Check skaters and coaches in at front entrance. Collect music cd's, direct them to locker rooms, give gift bags, etc. Re-distribute CD's after the competition, as needed.

Are you presenting a new program for the first time? Have you been competing with a program all season, but not getting the marks you'd like? Then you need a Program Critique!

Receive input from a member of our panel of judges on how you can improve your performance. All event types are eligible and a follow-up email will be sent to confirm event choice.

Open Adult Skating Session
